"revisit the night..." 2018

works are approximately 7" x 5.5" (18 cm x 14 cm), 2018

"untitled" 2018

I discovered a large stack of a woven type of paper in the family shed in Bulgaria. The folio-sized sheets were ink-stamped with a grid. It was a blank form of sorts, a schedule of classes or perhaps a class roster. Considering there was a local high school just across the street, I assumed the paper was given to my aunt to burn in her stove. Something like that.

It's a strange, heavy paper and I wanted to use it, so I brought it with me to the Netherlands. I drew on it, painted it, shredded it, carved it, washed it and collaged with it. For several years it littered my studio floor.

I had been working with text and images of the Moon, the Night and dark shadows. Works ranged from small to large, the latter of which were glued on canvas and stretched.

These were the smallest, made at the end of the Moon series.
